555 Days... The Continuation

Welcome to 555 Days as a Poet by The Crafty Scribe

Back in 2010, I challenged myself to write a poem or a short verse a day, and post it to a blog. 555 Days as a Poet by The Crafty Scribe is the continuation of the experiment.

I gave myself 18 months to recover from the original daily blog postings, and now, I am ready to start it all over again. Although as I was beginning in the middle of the year, I thought 6 months was too short a time after my last experience.

"If I could complete a year of poems, how about 18 months?" I thought. I worked out that would be 549 days. I could have rounded it up to 550 to included New Years Day 2014, but then I thought I'd go 5 better... to 555 days.

Why 555? According to many spiritual teachers, the number 555 is a sign of change and the flow of energy. I thought it related to the blog. I spent a year writing a poem every day, then rested for 18 months. Now the tide has turned. It's time to begin the flow of words in my life again.

I'm not a trained poet, just an enthusiastic scribe wanting to create something new each day. I don't truly know my stanza from my meter, but I hope to improve and get my poetic license someday! Expect the weird, the strange and the inner workings of the Crafty Scribe's mind. Let's ride the waves once more.

Please pass on the blog address to all your verse and lyrical loving friends. I hope you will join me, and read my daily scribbling.

"Grains of Truth in Words" (Entry 415)

The words you utter
Are multitude minute grains,
Sand spat at me,
To hit cell and blood stream.
Deluge of grit, grate and sear,
Through my body, soul and mind.
Until it pounds upon my chest,
The flames of your true meaning scath,
Turns heart to glass,
Which you shatter.
To you - no matter.
No thought or apology
Of the pieces you've left of me.
You carry on without care,
While I can never repair.

"Silver Ring" (Entry 361)

It shone out in the moonlight.
Sparkling silver, circle bright.
A shimmering ring,
She knew what it meant, but why?

She didn't expect it, this night
To turn out this way, not right.
She howled in anguish,
Knowing every word was a lie.

It meant that all they'd had done was deceit
Crying out, her world crashed at her feet.
The silver ring, she found in the forest.
Broke her heart, she wanted to die.

To a noise behind, she span round
Raised her head high and stood her ground,
As her tears turned to anger.
He stepped forward with smile, so wry.

"So, I've caught you" he said in victorious gloat.
As in-human snarl rose in her throat.
"You can't step over the silver circle. This ring that we made.
Can you, werewolf? Don't deny!"

"The Sigh. The Tear." (Entry 327)

She heard his sigh
Before he woke her.
That deep regret and
Bitter disappointment,
All said
Without goodbye.

Her teardrop fell,
Once he left her.
It held her heartbreak
And devastation
A million words
Could never tell.

"For You To Find" (Entry 310)

What was mine
Was always yours.
You knew that,
If only you'd looked inside.
I was yours to find.

Easier than delving into a boiled egg,
Only thin shelled - never thick skinned.
No tricky tongs or paring knives needed.
Just me on the menu.
Always yours to find.

Always there, in the now.
A present in the present.
If you'd ripped open the tissue paper
Of your own deceit and lies,
I was still there to find.

You didn't want the trouble,
Too much effort, too much bother.
All deep breaths and sighs.
Always something more important to do,
But I waited for you to find.

I even pulled back the covers,
but still you didn't want to discover.
I wasn't Everest or North Pole cold.
Just ready for you to behold.
No map needed for you to find.

What is mine
Is mine.
You never took the time
To find,
What could have been.

"At the Last Moment" (Entry 301)

He heard the rattle,
cloaked by blooded choke,
as distant as the rumbling of the rail road tracks
as the 9:36 train passed.
The last way outta here.
End of the line.
Destination nowhere.
Please tell me it's not over?

He knew it was his sound.
His last breath.
His time. This time.
The last beat of his heart shuddered
as the air escaped from ruptured lungs.

Screaming. A woman.
His woman screamed.
The same woman that nagged him
to get away from 'them damn people!'
She said they'd be the death of him.
She was right, of course.

The bullet struck fast,
no warning - no argument.
It wasn't even his shit,
that caused this.
One of his had taken one of theirs.
It was only right they took it back.
Wasn't it?

An eye for an eye.
Fight the gang fight.
The code - for those without morality.
His life for their honour.
Respect.
Over what?

He couldn't even remember.
All becoming a dream.
His life the nightmare.
Something about territory
and white powder.
Lots of it.
All seems stupid now.
Doesn't it?

Something a man with a wife and a
child
shouldn't be messed up with.
Child!
His baby.
He would never hold his son in his arms again.
Never see him grow.
Never stop him from making the mistakes he made.
That's what a dad was meant to do.
Wasn't it?

In that moment between the last heartbeat and what's next.
He cried.
He cried for a change to change his ways,
to be a better father and husband.
A chance to be a good man.
Then... the moment ended.
He was gone.
A shame.
Isn't it?

"Hiding It Away" (Entry 240)

Most people display it proudly
for all the world to see.
Or wear it for admiring glances.
Isn't that the way to be?
Though, she keeps hers in a box
locked beneath the stairs.
They are her dreams and wishes
guarded by despair.

"Lies Collected" (Entry 205)

He tried to cover his lies
with garbled tales and barefaced sighs.
But she found out, one by one,
hidden in drawers of what he'd become.
She never said a word as she collected,
gathered and found her neglected.
Ammunition piled against his deception.
Lies and the truth now in her collection.
