555 Days... The Continuation

Welcome to 555 Days as a Poet by The Crafty Scribe

Back in 2010, I challenged myself to write a poem or a short verse a day, and post it to a blog. 555 Days as a Poet by The Crafty Scribe is the continuation of the experiment.

I gave myself 18 months to recover from the original daily blog postings, and now, I am ready to start it all over again. Although as I was beginning in the middle of the year, I thought 6 months was too short a time after my last experience.

"If I could complete a year of poems, how about 18 months?" I thought. I worked out that would be 549 days. I could have rounded it up to 550 to included New Years Day 2014, but then I thought I'd go 5 better... to 555 days.

Why 555? According to many spiritual teachers, the number 555 is a sign of change and the flow of energy. I thought it related to the blog. I spent a year writing a poem every day, then rested for 18 months. Now the tide has turned. It's time to begin the flow of words in my life again.

I'm not a trained poet, just an enthusiastic scribe wanting to create something new each day. I don't truly know my stanza from my meter, but I hope to improve and get my poetic license someday! Expect the weird, the strange and the inner workings of the Crafty Scribe's mind. Let's ride the waves once more.

Please pass on the blog address to all your verse and lyrical loving friends. I hope you will join me, and read my daily scribbling.

"Supple Spine" (Entry 511)

Fingers travel along the spine.
A caress and gasp of passions breath.
Massage skin in every space.
Then open the cover,
to read,
a book is a special place.

"The Reluctant Speaker" (Entry 476)

Breath caught and fought back.
No time for an attack.
Calm lungs, brain and throat.
Can't do this! I'll grab my coat!
Stay focused and still.
Turn-my? Now-me-kill!
Can't get in-order-words!
Gosh! This is so absurd!
It's only a five minute speech.
Why does it feel outside my reach?
Too many faces staring my way.
Can't I return another day?
Shuffle papers to shuffling feet.
This is ridiculous! I can't compete.
Force a smile, a pause, a cough and then first squeak.
Five minutes pass... (applause, of course)
Thanks! I could come back next week?

"A Deeper Pain" (Entry 474)

Shifted beneath unyielding pain,
I dug further to, in hope, that naught remain.
But as I clawed into my mind.
The deeper shafts, the more to find.
Sifted through the depths deep to dwell.
Only to discover my personal hell.

"Strip Off!" (Entry 461)

Strip off
Expose
Lay bare
The naked truth that's you.
Lift up
Disrobe
Undress
Be rid of the mask. Be new!
Peel off
Tear away
Shed the skin
Show the real magic within.
Unwrap
Reveal
Display
Your love and heart within.

"Evil Does" (Entry 447) *horror

Caress that sectile space.
A dream of damaged determinant in distant destiny.
Naught distant. Due now!
Tied lithe limbs.
Ready for bidden behaviour
Listed before. In this state. And places to be.
Hidden, unfound, below ground.
Unfounded suspicions - a truth to lie upon.
Snatch scalpel, sharp-contrast against supple skin.
Don't be shy. Dig in!

"Pedometer's Prayer" (Entry 442)

Take haste.
Run endure.
Counting steps.
Keeping score.
Heart levels.
Exercise more.
Round the block.
Been here before.

"Bad Blood" (Entry 441)

Bad blood! Bad blood!
Wrong child!
Misbehave.
It's in your blood.

Bad blood! Bad blood!
Wrong stock!
Doesn't fit.
Be grateful you were taken in.

Bad blood! Bad blood!
The halo's slipped.
Foundling!
Should have left you, where they found you.

Bad blood! Bad blood!
Ran hot and cold.
Fiery and indifferent.
Pumping at heart and soul.

Bad blood! Not bad at all!
Same as any teenage.
Though they said, bad blood.
The heart was strong and bold.

"Dream's Diatribe - Waking's Praise" (Entry 424)

I woke up crying.

From a dream,
in which you were...

lost.

Not 'un'found.
Lost to me - no longer around.
(Prepared for ground.)
Can't say - nor scribe - the words.
Though you know
My meaning
Of this keening.

They wept and wailed.
I watched them wail and weep.
I stood before gathered crowd.
You - I'm proud, but not of them.
I bit and clawed and chewed them out.
Told them all, without a doubt,
Of each mistake and disservice recorded,
With each word, it's you,
It's you, I applauded.
In the end, an audience shocked, knowing their woes from wrongs.
A lament of venom. Poisoned songs.

I woke up crying.
Devastated.
(In seeing you, my fears abated.)
Though I reel and break apart,
The scene unbidden which broke my heart.
For in that nightmare, at the root,
Held many bitter bitten-tongued truth.
I wish there was strength in my being,
To call them out (on your behalf) with words so freeing.
Instead emotion stays locked inside,
In subconscious, these diatribes hide.

I woke up crying,
from dream cruel and strange,
Knowing that there was one way,
I could act on and change.
I promise I'll be here you for always.
I may have woken with tears,
But I'll mop away your sadness.
Bring warmth and laughter to replace fears.
I promise, with daring desire,
a passion's extol.
I'll tell you, I LOVE YOU!
Each day,
With body, heart, mind and soul.

"Art's Heart" (Entry 416)

Image emerge
From blank space,
Show your vision
In this place.
Use my hand
And passion's heart.
Bring forth creative spirit
Release the art!

"Grains of Truth in Words" (Entry 415)

The words you utter
Are multitude minute grains,
Sand spat at me,
To hit cell and blood stream.
Deluge of grit, grate and sear,
Through my body, soul and mind.
Until it pounds upon my chest,
The flames of your true meaning scath,
Turns heart to glass,
Which you shatter.
To you - no matter.
No thought or apology
Of the pieces you've left of me.
You carry on without care,
While I can never repair.

"Crafted Heart" (Entry 403)

Custom made without machine.
Folded by hand, no routine.
Fruitful bounty by flesh ungloved.
Given to you from an artist you loved.
Kept in sentiment and forgotten memory.
Held it heart, where it's meant to be.

"Exotic Oils" (Entry 382)

Exotic oil
Made with toil.
In eons past caressed those royal.
Bought on a whim,
A gift from him.
Now gently massaged onto limb.
Liquid gold,
Glide and mold,
What secrets flow in liquid behold.
Resin and petal.
Seeps to settle.
Sensual scents strengthen spirits mettle.

"Bleach Out" (Entry 371)

Bleach.
Wipe out what went before.
Perfect white.
Light.
Ready to shade.
Parade colour on bland base.
Correct hue.
All Right.

"Fantasy to Fact" (Entry 365)

He caresses the blade,
Stroking it as he does his shaft.
Gently. Long
Firmly. Strong.

It's edge digging into his palm.
The blood trickles down his arm to elbow.
It drips,
then flows

landing on her flesh.
At his feet on cold concrete.
Exposed skin.
Naked. Bound.

Pink tainted blue against grey.
He's ready to render it to red.
His fantasy
turned fact.

"Delving Deeper Than He Knew" (Entry 360)

There was an uneasiness between his shoulder blades.
A feeling never felt before.
Not an itch needing to be scratched.
Something deeper, you just abhor.

So deep an ache from his back to his neck,
Catching his throat in a vice and a rope.
It reached forward to grasp at his heart.
Sucking air from his chest, and all hope.

It enveloped him and grabbed at his spirit.
All life and joy now left.
Disabling his prayers and ambitions.
Pulling him further to hell. Soul bereft.

"Three Days after the Snow Ceased" (Entry 353)

That was six months ago.
Half year. Continual snow.
Never ending.
Never thawing.
Constant temperature,
We began to live with.
Endless winter on
This globe of snow.

Then the snow ceased.
Falling no more.
Mercury dropped
Sudden. Harsh.
Lower and lower,
Beyond measure.
The world froze.
Deep cold stasis.

First the pipes, then electricity.
Static life.
Static on the wind-up radio.
Food frozen in cans, water in bottles, fruit in bowls.
Walls and floors became glossed sheets.
Iced surfaces,
A skaters delight.

No way of melting.
Fires went out,
Wood shattered into icy shards.
Even gas hardened.
No flame to take.
Nothing to burn.
Nothing will burn, even bodies.
The dying began long before.

Until there is only a fistful left.
Extremities numb.
Finger snapping.
Cold seeps into the skin.
Crystals forming in my vision.
It began three days ago.
It's difficult to hold this pen.
I don't know how much more I -

"Lagoon of Your Own" (Entry 350)

Lagoon glistened.
Proto-waves lapped volcanic rock.
Go on, Signore, dive in!
It sang dal Segno.
It's fine! It's your sign.

Dophin-print towel shrugged from shoulders.
A heap at his feet,
as he kicked away worn leather sandals.
Brush back hair.
Leaving sunglasses perched upon nose.

Without second view.
He ran up and he flew.

Water and man becoming one.
Pushed up from sandy floor, he rose.
Through crystal waters,
As warm as any Sunday night bath before school, or now the dirge of 8 to 6.
(It's inflation of the 9 to 5, but that's all left back in his other life.)

Now, this was THE LIFE!

He grabbed his glasses as they floated past
to reposition them to their rightful place.

Now, this was THE Rightful Place. Delightful!

He sighed, laid back to rest on
salty soothing cradle of
gentle rocked sea,
crooned to by the sizzle of sun's ray.
This was where he belonged.
Where he should be.

"Fast Food Fallacy" (Entry 349)

Most think on a treat.
When it's more o' a trick.
Biggest hoax ev'r conceived.

Billion dollar industry wrapped up.
Plastic food presented in
cardboard container-ship loads.

Throw up food for a disposable society.

As chains popped up on high streets,
Buttons pinged on pants, skirts and shirts world-wide.
A world getting wider.

Fast food joints for
Arthritic obese children
Who could never increase their pace beyond a waddle.
A disgrace to the name, restaurant.
Instead conveyor belts of convenience.

Open a clogged vein of conscience.
Don't take it to go.
Just make it go away.

Would you like your heart fried with that?

"Tap and Rap a March" (Entry 348)

Drumming talons.
Four beats then a bar.
Staccato sharp.
Fingers fortissimo.
Hard,
Again and again and
It begins to annoy.
Heartbeat joins to rhythm.
Want it to stop.
Realisation of the hand,
My hand disjointed.
My fingers playing out the deathly dire,
The dark march.
Unnoticed, until now.
I flinch away and flex.
Silence.
