555 Days... The Continuation

Welcome to 555 Days as a Poet by The Crafty Scribe

Back in 2010, I challenged myself to write a poem or a short verse a day, and post it to a blog. 555 Days as a Poet by The Crafty Scribe is the continuation of the experiment.

I gave myself 18 months to recover from the original daily blog postings, and now, I am ready to start it all over again. Although as I was beginning in the middle of the year, I thought 6 months was too short a time after my last experience.

"If I could complete a year of poems, how about 18 months?" I thought. I worked out that would be 549 days. I could have rounded it up to 550 to included New Years Day 2014, but then I thought I'd go 5 better... to 555 days.

Why 555? According to many spiritual teachers, the number 555 is a sign of change and the flow of energy. I thought it related to the blog. I spent a year writing a poem every day, then rested for 18 months. Now the tide has turned. It's time to begin the flow of words in my life again.

I'm not a trained poet, just an enthusiastic scribe wanting to create something new each day. I don't truly know my stanza from my meter, but I hope to improve and get my poetic license someday! Expect the weird, the strange and the inner workings of the Crafty Scribe's mind. Let's ride the waves once more.

Please pass on the blog address to all your verse and lyrical loving friends. I hope you will join me, and read my daily scribbling.

"Little Things" (Entry 514)

What can be delight?
Energy in flight?
The day’s dawn light?
Wind under kite?
Panoramic mountain’s height?
What a sight!
To know what’s right?
Be bright and delight
in the little things,
with all your might.

"See On" (Entry 507)

You see! You see!
The truth of judgements.
Who are you to see, you see?
No idea. Think on and think some more.
Take a moment, and look again.
You’ll see.

"Bring and Show" (Entry 502)

Bring the crazy
Bring the pain
Bring the laughter
Bring the rain
Bring the hope
Bring the woes
Show the new
Show the lows
Show the next
Show the real
Show the comfort
Show what you feel

"A Black Day" (Entry 501)

Black mac.
Black cap.
Black suit.
Black shoes.

White shirt.
Great hair.
Ashen face.
Roses red.

Black umbrellas.
Black car.
Black skies.
Black mood.

Green grass.
Gold handles.
Oak coffin.
Somebody’s dead.

"Half a Mile" (Entry 500)

Reach the turning.
Stop, gather ravaged thought.
Car horn blared.
Lights ferocious flash.
Forced to pull the turn.

No more time to consider.
No more time to cry.
Front wheels hit gravel road,
crunching, spitting out stones.
Half a mile on grinding track.

Half a mile until…

"Sing Life's Song" (Entry 481)

I smile at jokes from distance times.
Although I alone remember.
Now the tears flow, I don't know why.
My heart and soul are in embers.

My laughter turns and anger burns.
As the truth dissolves the fences.
Though I yearn, it's you that spurned.
Destroying all of my defences.

But I'll grin against the hurt.
Lifting chin up to the skies.
There's a new hope to assert.
I walk on with clearer eyes.

I am strong, know where I belong.
I have a future of which I'm proud.
You were wrong, this is my song.
It's my life and I'll sing it out loud.

"Fashionista's Front" (Entry 465)

So proud and haughty.
(And slightly naughty?)
Attempt at hiding the glimpse
Of emotions flair.
Forcing down the twinkling imp.
Pads on lacquer held in lap.
Would a smile really sap
The veneer you harden?
So not to appear to beg the pardon
Of the lower mortals, lesser classes
With laser eyes, these social unordered lasses.
Crossed ankles, uncrossed vision.
An upturned snout shows derision.
What's behind the mannequin you wear?
Is it joyous, clever, or is nothing there?
That's what people expect, isn't it?
But I don't think that. Not one bit!

"Empty Space" (Entry 462)

Where have you been?
Where do you go?
Missed from my life.
Where? I didn't know.
An empty place
To my right.
It felt all wrong.
Alone in the night.
But now you're back.
Where you should be.
So 'fraid. I'll never ask.
Trapped by my absentee.

"So, You've Gone" (Entry 456)

I wept once.
When I heard you had gone.
Not for you,
For those left behind.
You hurt.
You were worth-less and less.
And yet. And yet.
You destroyed more
Than you ever gave.
So I and we wave goodbye.
No more tears shed
On the life you lead.

"Dream's Diatribe - Waking's Praise" (Entry 424)

I woke up crying.

From a dream,
in which you were...

lost.

Not 'un'found.
Lost to me - no longer around.
(Prepared for ground.)
Can't say - nor scribe - the words.
Though you know
My meaning
Of this keening.

They wept and wailed.
I watched them wail and weep.
I stood before gathered crowd.
You - I'm proud, but not of them.
I bit and clawed and chewed them out.
Told them all, without a doubt,
Of each mistake and disservice recorded,
With each word, it's you,
It's you, I applauded.
In the end, an audience shocked, knowing their woes from wrongs.
A lament of venom. Poisoned songs.

I woke up crying.
Devastated.
(In seeing you, my fears abated.)
Though I reel and break apart,
The scene unbidden which broke my heart.
For in that nightmare, at the root,
Held many bitter bitten-tongued truth.
I wish there was strength in my being,
To call them out (on your behalf) with words so freeing.
Instead emotion stays locked inside,
In subconscious, these diatribes hide.

I woke up crying,
from dream cruel and strange,
Knowing that there was one way,
I could act on and change.
I promise I'll be here you for always.
I may have woken with tears,
But I'll mop away your sadness.
Bring warmth and laughter to replace fears.
I promise, with daring desire,
a passion's extol.
I'll tell you, I LOVE YOU!
Each day,
With body, heart, mind and soul.

"Take Note" (Entry 410)

Bring passion.
Bring fears.
Bring love.
Bring tears.
Take laughter.
Take obsession.
Take note.
Take expression.

"Untethered Vortex" (Entry 338)

Beyond balloons
and kites on height.
To take the blows
and dissipate the vortex,
that they left behind.
Blustered thrust at the guts
from their departure.
Left drifting in the air.
Will there, once again,
be a tethering place?

"Universal Air" (Entry 335)

Solar winds breathe as
Universal air rolls on
Rusty dusty rock.

"What is Love?" (Entry 264)

What is Love?
If not the all.
Isn't that why you're meant to fall?

The candle flame, the ghostly shade.
Unruly child ne'er taught to behave.

A heat that freezes, icy depth in sizzled wake.
The razor cuts and skin burns of heartbreak.

Insane laughter that turns joy to tears.
Grief returned and tempered by years.

But all throughout you feel the tender.
The love divine from passion's sender.

The truth of amore in first kiss tasted.
Moments embraced are never wasted.

What is love?
It is all.
Sent by the Universe,
It's Heaven's call.

"Flirt Alert" (Entry 258)

Was that really what I saw?
A glint in the eye of someone I adore.
Did his look a little longer linger?
Oh, now he's wrapped me on that strong finger.
A brush of hand. A spinal electric.
with one flirt, we've connected.

And that smile he gave me - a pearly white.
That's gone and done it! I'm his... for the night!

"Ghosts of my Past" (Entry 235)

Ghosts of my past
seep in to dreams.
The moments that happened and
those of wishes.
Memories of what was and
could have been.
Spectres circle my bed unseen.
So night's no delight.
As regret takes hold of throat
to shake it loose
and not take root.
To think forward
of NOW
not past.
Grab hold of the future,
for it won't last.

"Thought Behind Voice" (Entry 221)

I said, "Hello, good to see you."
(I meant, "You're here? I wish I knew.")

I said, "How you doing? You look swell."
(I meant, "You look a state, in fact, like hell.")

"We must catch up soon," I said.
(What I meant? "I wish you dead!")

"Weigh the Night's Wait" (Entry 180)

To seep into sleep.
Body ooze as you doze.
Night's wait will lift as you drift.
Eye lids weighed as you're sedated.
Forget the pounds as you float out of bounds.
Lands of dream lighter than they seem.

"A Secret Symbol" (Entry 172)

A coin (which is no longer tender)
embedded in a champagne cork.
Its symbolism only known to me,
as he who created it has long forgotten.
Yet it means a turn in life profound.
The meaning only for me.
(Tender to my heart.)
A secret never to be spoken.

"Explanation Squelched" (Entry 162)

He never listened.
Bombastic and exploding over her sentences.
Never letting her fini-
Covering her in spite, spittle and righteousness.
Always the shake of the round red blood-pressured head.
High and mighty.
Explanations squelched.
Squashing her opinions and individuality.
She was alright to be different as long as it was the same as his.
Broken and unable to speak.
She sobbed into the darkness of his soul.
