555 Days... The Continuation

Welcome to 555 Days as a Poet by The Crafty Scribe

Back in 2010, I challenged myself to write a poem or a short verse a day, and post it to a blog. 555 Days as a Poet by The Crafty Scribe is the continuation of the experiment.

I gave myself 18 months to recover from the original daily blog postings, and now, I am ready to start it all over again. Although as I was beginning in the middle of the year, I thought 6 months was too short a time after my last experience.

"If I could complete a year of poems, how about 18 months?" I thought. I worked out that would be 549 days. I could have rounded it up to 550 to included New Years Day 2014, but then I thought I'd go 5 better... to 555 days.

Why 555? According to many spiritual teachers, the number 555 is a sign of change and the flow of energy. I thought it related to the blog. I spent a year writing a poem every day, then rested for 18 months. Now the tide has turned. It's time to begin the flow of words in my life again.

I'm not a trained poet, just an enthusiastic scribe wanting to create something new each day. I don't truly know my stanza from my meter, but I hope to improve and get my poetic license someday! Expect the weird, the strange and the inner workings of the Crafty Scribe's mind. Let's ride the waves once more.

Please pass on the blog address to all your verse and lyrical loving friends. I hope you will join me, and read my daily scribbling.

A present for the new.
Given to you.
Abundance in all you need.
Goodwill in every deed.
Health and power through your life.
Freedom to be beyond all strife.
Happiness for every day.
Hope to enjoy, laugh and pray.

"Future Gifts" (Entry 540)

Burden or gift?
Power or responsibility?
Crushed or weighed heavy?
What present will be present in your future?

"Real Thing or Emperor's New Machine?" (Entry 529)

Gigantic machine throbbed and gleamed in the man-made cave.
Deep underground away from curious eyes.
They’d hoped it meant out of sight, out of mind.
Didn’t want what they were trying to achieve to come into question.

Given out statements to the scrutinised and selected media
using enough techno-babble to confound and impress.
Wanted to make it vague enough but seem as simple as possible
than none would want to embarrass themselves
by asking what they were really doing.
The Emperor’s new clothes for intelligence.
No one wants that belittled.

Numbers aligned.
Now.
Now they were ready to stare into the face of tomorrow.
Now they were ready to time travel.

"'A' Testing Time" (Entry 525)

He stared at the back of the exam paper.
Three years culmination.
Ends here.
Or starts here.
Studied and revised.
Always studied and revised.
Every test and assignment
rewarded an ‘A’.
Top of class with confidence.

Why now was memory
as thick as mud.
Brain cells dead.
A zombie in Gap jeans.
Nothing but mash between the ears.

Gulping oxygen and panic,
he straightened the lone pencil above
the glaring black back sheet on
worn wooden square slab.

Progress checked on examiner who
place the same items on other victims desk
in echoing gym.
Step - paper slap - pencil tap -
step - slap - tap -
step - slap - tap.
The anxious and the eager sliently acknowledging the delivery.

He remembered nothing.
Nothing.
Pressure demanding their use of a vice
on his brain oozing any knowledge
to dribble out of his ears
leaving mush.
Nothing.

Examiner finished his dance and shuffled to the front,
checked his watch
until allotted time.
No stay of execution this day.
“You may begin.”

He turned over the page,
information reformed,
remoulded,
reappeared.
The questions washing away the mud,
memory flooding in.
Another ‘A’ this day!

"Up... Again!" (Entry 505)

Up! Up! Up again.
What comes next?
And then? And then? And again?

"Hope's Fight" (Entry 490)

High hope will come to pass
If naught this day, it will be last.
To fight on and hope heart,
then all will be true and never part.

"Sing Life's Song" (Entry 481)

I smile at jokes from distance times.
Although I alone remember.
Now the tears flow, I don't know why.
My heart and soul are in embers.

My laughter turns and anger burns.
As the truth dissolves the fences.
Though I yearn, it's you that spurned.
Destroying all of my defences.

But I'll grin against the hurt.
Lifting chin up to the skies.
There's a new hope to assert.
I walk on with clearer eyes.

I am strong, know where I belong.
I have a future of which I'm proud.
You were wrong, this is my song.
It's my life and I'll sing it out loud.

"Ask Questions of Queue" (Entry 413)

We take our places in the queue.
Hoping it leads to something new.
Unexplained situations? Too polite to ask.
Being coaxed to perform unknown tasks.
Nation rules and laws, we follow.
Easy to govern, with a future hollow.
What? Where? Why? How? All forgotten.
When and who? Us and now - society's rotten.

"Balmy Ideas" (Entry 383)

Balmy day.
Mechanical breeze whipped through the dome.
Light shone to create tropical warmth.
Always a balmy day inside the dome.
Constant temperature inside the Hawaiian Dome.

Or to ski.
A control suit - airlock - surface shuttle - airlock away.
In the Alps Dome.
Oh, to wish.
But how she wished...
She wished....

Look up from the Moon to Earth.
To experience the real lands,
And mountains, and cities,
But mainly the oceans.

For all her home pod,
Hawaiian Dome,
Offered with artificial surf reef and pools.
There was no expanse of ocean,
To dive, to explore, to surf,
To sail away.
To be with the animals.
Oh, how she wished to see animals for real.
She sighed as she saw the blue of Earth.

"One day, I'll get there. I know I will.
The thought of being there with all that diversity.
The wonders!
To get beyond the Moon.
To walk the land and swim the seas.
It's a leap, I know,
But one day,
I will step upon the Earth!"

"Drift to Space Beyond" (Entry 332)

Yet to drift beyond
The boundless yesterdays.
To dabble in what may be
And what could have been
To dip one's thought in changing patterns,
The ripples of the unboxed unseen.

It didn't happen in this thread,
Not snipped or tangled,
Just not, this way lead
To be sown or glued to shape.
An untrod cloud in this space.
The missed dimension.
Let's never mention it again.

"Ghosts of my Past" (Entry 235)

Ghosts of my past
seep in to dreams.
The moments that happened and
those of wishes.
Memories of what was and
could have been.
Spectres circle my bed unseen.
So night's no delight.
As regret takes hold of throat
to shake it loose
and not take root.
To think forward
of NOW
not past.
Grab hold of the future,
for it won't last.

"Rented Journey into Future" (Entry 220)

It was the first time she'd driven a rented truck.
Listened carefully to the serge-shirted hire guy,
As he pointed to the dashboard with tobacco-stained fingers.

Now her own red lacquered talons caressed the worn steering wheel
congealed with sweat and bacterial infections.
Her boobs jiggled, in their low-cut top,
and she giggled on high sprung seats and higher suspension.
Tension released.
Gathered behind her, in boxes, stacked her worldly goods.
All on their way to her new life.
Six hours cross country... Into her future on unknown piece of planet.

"Remembering It All" (Entry 185)

Humans break up their lives into compartments known as time.
Dividing and segmenting smaller and smaller,
so much so, they forget it all.
What they know as past.

As for me, I can remember everything.
That's if I want to.
I know what has been and what will be,
in this dimension and others,
all that is beyond this trinket of a universe.

It all happens now.
Now! NOW!
So I remember it.
I live it.
I am.
I.

"Midnight Revellers" (Entry 184)

Join the throng when days long gone.
To party through the whole night too.
Take my hand, sing 'Auld Lang Syne'.
Soon the bars will be all mine.
People watch without a care.
Midnight revellers. I want to be there.

"Here and Now" (Entry 151)

What can we hold?
Be it nothing.
A grasp at insubstantial time.
And yet.
We do.
Caught up not to notice that
we only have now.
The moment that's here.
Now gone.
We gather thoughts to memories and spend
what we do have
on planning a distant future
as far as the next dimension.
Intangible - never got.

"To Be Gifted Hindsight" (Entry 96)

Power of old
moulded
create life's decision.
Future hindsight,
tonight,
show me the true vision.
