555 Days... The Continuation

Welcome to 555 Days as a Poet by The Crafty Scribe

Back in 2010, I challenged myself to write a poem or a short verse a day, and post it to a blog. 555 Days as a Poet by The Crafty Scribe is the continuation of the experiment.

I gave myself 18 months to recover from the original daily blog postings, and now, I am ready to start it all over again. Although as I was beginning in the middle of the year, I thought 6 months was too short a time after my last experience.

"If I could complete a year of poems, how about 18 months?" I thought. I worked out that would be 549 days. I could have rounded it up to 550 to included New Years Day 2014, but then I thought I'd go 5 better... to 555 days.

Why 555? According to many spiritual teachers, the number 555 is a sign of change and the flow of energy. I thought it related to the blog. I spent a year writing a poem every day, then rested for 18 months. Now the tide has turned. It's time to begin the flow of words in my life again.

I'm not a trained poet, just an enthusiastic scribe wanting to create something new each day. I don't truly know my stanza from my meter, but I hope to improve and get my poetic license someday! Expect the weird, the strange and the inner workings of the Crafty Scribe's mind. Let's ride the waves once more.

Please pass on the blog address to all your verse and lyrical loving friends. I hope you will join me, and read my daily scribbling.

"Disco Beat Death" (Entry 496)

1 - 2 - 3 - 4
The disco beat bounced through his head.
BeeGees with sledge hammers.
That infernal tune on internal loop.

That bloody adverts fault,
meant to save lives.
First aid,
CPR,
chest compressions to the rhythm of ‘Stayin’ Alive.’

Ironic,
now the victim was Forever Dead.

He’d been there, willing them along,
counting his breaths,
trusting they would keep the patient going,
as they attempted to stop the blood from literally

Going down the drain.

He didn’t see the car hit,
but from what he was looking at now,
it must have been a head-on.
Over the bonnet and thrown into the gutter,

Like the rest of the unwanted discarded detritus.

He stared at the body,it looked empty.
A shell, some call it,
like you could hold it to your ear and
still listen to its past life, like

The distant roar of the ocean.

No, that mass of meat was nothing but compost, or ash, now.
He should know,
it was his body he viewed through
non-existant non-corporeal eyes.

He knew he should be reviewing his life,
or regretting what he should or shouldn’t have down.
Trouble was, he couldn’t stop thinking about that fucking tune,
“Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Stayin’ Alive!”

He prayed it wouldn’t last into eternity.

"Hope's Fight" (Entry 490)

High hope will come to pass
If naught this day, it will be last.
To fight on and hope heart,
then all will be true and never part.

"Strip Off!" (Entry 461)

Strip off
Expose
Lay bare
The naked truth that's you.
Lift up
Disrobe
Undress
Be rid of the mask. Be new!
Peel off
Tear away
Shed the skin
Show the real magic within.
Unwrap
Reveal
Display
Your love and heart within.

"Beat On" (Entry 445)

Drum! Drum!
Beat on
Life's rhythm.

"One Summer" (Entry 444)

You laughed.
You smiled.
Danced like a child,
But I was one too.

My heart.
My dreams.
My love so it seemed.
For one summer through.

"Coast Road" (Entry 438)

Drive the coat road.
A signature scrawled.
Bend beyond bend.
Chiseled melt of sand belt
Against soothing moving vast potion of ocean.

To drive, to see,
For, I am home.
My place to be.
Single lanes of dipping, slipping, Tarmac'd heat.
Overtaking, sliding, squeaking on leather seat.

This slick grey snake slinks
from north to south, south to north,
As sun slices and sinks beyond
the ebb and flow of expanse burst forth.

To drive, to see.
For, I am home.
My place to be.
My place to be.

"Dream's Diatribe - Waking's Praise" (Entry 424)

I woke up crying.

From a dream,
in which you were...

lost.

Not 'un'found.
Lost to me - no longer around.
(Prepared for ground.)
Can't say - nor scribe - the words.
Though you know
My meaning
Of this keening.

They wept and wailed.
I watched them wail and weep.
I stood before gathered crowd.
You - I'm proud, but not of them.
I bit and clawed and chewed them out.
Told them all, without a doubt,
Of each mistake and disservice recorded,
With each word, it's you,
It's you, I applauded.
In the end, an audience shocked, knowing their woes from wrongs.
A lament of venom. Poisoned songs.

I woke up crying.
Devastated.
(In seeing you, my fears abated.)
Though I reel and break apart,
The scene unbidden which broke my heart.
For in that nightmare, at the root,
Held many bitter bitten-tongued truth.
I wish there was strength in my being,
To call them out (on your behalf) with words so freeing.
Instead emotion stays locked inside,
In subconscious, these diatribes hide.

I woke up crying,
from dream cruel and strange,
Knowing that there was one way,
I could act on and change.
I promise I'll be here you for always.
I may have woken with tears,
But I'll mop away your sadness.
Bring warmth and laughter to replace fears.
I promise, with daring desire,
a passion's extol.
I'll tell you, I LOVE YOU!
Each day,
With body, heart, mind and soul.

"Art's Heart" (Entry 416)

Image emerge
From blank space,
Show your vision
In this place.
Use my hand
And passion's heart.
Bring forth creative spirit
Release the art!

"Grains of Truth in Words" (Entry 415)

The words you utter
Are multitude minute grains,
Sand spat at me,
To hit cell and blood stream.
Deluge of grit, grate and sear,
Through my body, soul and mind.
Until it pounds upon my chest,
The flames of your true meaning scath,
Turns heart to glass,
Which you shatter.
To you - no matter.
No thought or apology
Of the pieces you've left of me.
You carry on without care,
While I can never repair.

"Force Unknown" (Entry 324)

You ripped my world apart
When you came through.
Broke my heart,
Tore my soul.
You never knew.

*****

Our love and thoughts go out to those devastated by the Oklahoma City tornado.

"Heart's Question" (Entry 321)

What can the heart do,
When the mind wants to dream?
Only the soul can lead the chorus.

"For You To Find" (Entry 310)

What was mine
Was always yours.
You knew that,
If only you'd looked inside.
I was yours to find.

Easier than delving into a boiled egg,
Only thin shelled - never thick skinned.
No tricky tongs or paring knives needed.
Just me on the menu.
Always yours to find.

Always there, in the now.
A present in the present.
If you'd ripped open the tissue paper
Of your own deceit and lies,
I was still there to find.

You didn't want the trouble,
Too much effort, too much bother.
All deep breaths and sighs.
Always something more important to do,
But I waited for you to find.

I even pulled back the covers,
but still you didn't want to discover.
I wasn't Everest or North Pole cold.
Just ready for you to behold.
No map needed for you to find.

What is mine
Is mine.
You never took the time
To find,
What could have been.

"Take The Awake" (Entry 309)

I wish I was awake
To stop the shake
The quake within my heart
For in my dreams, it's wretched apart.
Too late - can't break - it's broke.

"I. Always." (Entry 299)

I exist,
Amongst the stars,
Soaring through bright blaze of nebula
Secret pockets of folded space.
Beyond the sight of telescope.

I am,
Within the earth.
Unseen fingers wriggle in claggy cold clay.
Invisible toes stretch in mossy peat,
Where the wild world grows.
Caress Earth's surface and feel her breathe.
Go deeper and entwine within her heartbeat.

I live,
In oceans,
in the deep to dwell,
then ride upon the blustered swell,
To land as dew upon a daisy petal
Kissed by fleeting butterfly’s hush.

I survive,
In the air,
Hear my choral rhapsody within the wind,
be carried as dust wherever it blows.

I am there,
Always,
Part of The Universe - my home.

"Live Away" (Entry 197)

This statement is full of nonsense.
A stalemate of words so dense.
You can never live away from home.
For when you travel, where'er you roam.
Isn't that where you live?
Your home is the heart you give.

"Faith of Spirit" (Entry 179)

The strength of human spirit in adversity,
strikes the soul's desire and diversity.
When splintered and left broken.
That's when it proves faith's not a token.

"A Mix of Tears" (Entry 106)

you name it
you said it
you saw it
you sang
from stories of sadness
horrors and
thrillers
that go bang
from adverts
to true stories
my own life
and tragics
who die
even comedies
a flower
the view
They ALL make me cry.

"Met. For the first time." (Entry 87)

Eyes met. A smile across reception desk.
Shy hello. Blush of cheek for a handsome fellow.
Keys passed. A shock of hand, a love to last.

"Shot by Sorrow" (Entry 75)

The bullet did not burst the heart,
nor grazed the muscle at all.
It nicked a nerve which sent
the soar of pain straight to the soul.
Thoughts to better times enflamed,
then shrunk back to reality.
Passing sorrow which is calmed,
but never healed and not to be.

"With Her In Mind" (Entry 57)

With lips as red as cherry pop candy.
With fluttering lashes like a Georgian dandy.
With undulating hips like a cobra's dance.
With blushing cheeks, full of romance.
With violet eyes like an amethyst's heart.
She captures his mind even when they part.
