555 Days... The Continuation

Welcome to 555 Days as a Poet by The Crafty Scribe

Back in 2010, I challenged myself to write a poem or a short verse a day, and post it to a blog. 555 Days as a Poet by The Crafty Scribe is the continuation of the experiment.

I gave myself 18 months to recover from the original daily blog postings, and now, I am ready to start it all over again. Although as I was beginning in the middle of the year, I thought 6 months was too short a time after my last experience.

"If I could complete a year of poems, how about 18 months?" I thought. I worked out that would be 549 days. I could have rounded it up to 550 to included New Years Day 2014, but then I thought I'd go 5 better... to 555 days.

Why 555? According to many spiritual teachers, the number 555 is a sign of change and the flow of energy. I thought it related to the blog. I spent a year writing a poem every day, then rested for 18 months. Now the tide has turned. It's time to begin the flow of words in my life again.

I'm not a trained poet, just an enthusiastic scribe wanting to create something new each day. I don't truly know my stanza from my meter, but I hope to improve and get my poetic license someday! Expect the weird, the strange and the inner workings of the Crafty Scribe's mind. Let's ride the waves once more.

Please pass on the blog address to all your verse and lyrical loving friends. I hope you will join me, and read my daily scribbling.

"Your Inner Flame" (Entry 453)

Ignite emotion.
Let it burst forth.
Shine brightly, be true.
Smile, laugh, cry. Be YOU!

"Dream Change" (Entry 394)

There was always darkness in my dreams.
Funeral edges and morbid seams.
A shroud of despair-webbed grief-worm satin.
A veil weaved of last rite Latin.

Now nightmare mists, ebb and fade.
For I found you, light to my shade.
You elevate me to a heightened view.
You've changed my soul. I love you.

For you, my darling husband, for you.

"Cat's Night Patrol" (Entry 302)

Darkness drapes her sharp shoulders,
only to be lifted by spotlit circles from overhead lamps.
These pavements, her stage.
The cold seeps through cushioned pads
hardened by time and life.
She take in her circuit,
her territory,
to notice new invading sights and
telling scents of unknown beings,
friend or foe.

The wind lifts,
sending a torrent of leaves to
tear from the branches and
swoop, as seagulls, around her.
With the gust, a cry is carried.
She flinches to a pause.
To hold as still as unmossed stone,
as silent and unmoved as
that lonely naked rock.
Eyes widen,
pinpointing any scuttle or scamper.
Ears rotate,
senses performing better than
any radar.

All is fine.
All is quiet.
As it should be.
Satisfied, she turns,
jumps the wooden fence
at the spot she knows
is easiest.
Across damp lawn to
enter through her own private door.

She shakes the night from her fur to
curl up,
content in the knowledge that
her solitary streets stay safe.

"The First Light" (Entry 245)

Before the village shook off
the mantle of night, and
fires glowed,
we left at first light.
In gloomy mists of bone chilled ill,
I turned to see the single candle burn on window sill.
It seemed to wave the flame and sigh.
Good luck on your journey and with that
goodbye.

"Dare to Dance" (Entry 193)

Cherry stood by the pillar,
a perfect place to hide from prying eyes,
but where she could stare on dance floor gyrations.
Semi-naked and nude gleamed in the lasar darkness.
A shot of spot highlighting on a couple or group
in ecstatic movement.
Too swift for her to react,
a masculine hand grabbed hers pulling her forward.
Not a request to dance, but a demand.

"The Light's Delight" (Entry 187)

There has been told, by knights of old
about a quest, that is no jest.
That is a journey of full tourney
to take the fight and find impossible light.
A bright to shine beyond divine.
But how to start? Now there's the part,
of which is weird, for the map appears.
Only to those that see, the souls that come to thee.
For it is those that die, would will discover why
the tunnel of light, leads to impossible delight.

"Dissolve to Memory" (Entry 183)

I close my eyes
to windows bright shine
to sense white flash
of negative shapes dash
and dance in darkened space.
Only to feel them float and dissolve
to be memory in deepened soul.

"Newness in an Instant" (Entry 113)

The gasp of newness,
of old existence dying overwhelms.
The grasp gone.
There's light at the end of that tunnel.
Being pulled forward,
unable to control the movement.
Motion mechanical.
Through darkness to pure bright white.
Chaos and confusions and love.
Wrapped up in warmth,
in your new body.
From death to new born life.
In an instant.

"This. The Eclipse." (Entry 46)

The rolling darkness envelops.
Embracing and beholden,
an orgasmic grasp,
until
all gone.
Nothing but
halo of Sun and Moon conjoined.
Entrapped in a moment,
in rapture,
then once again light fights.
Released.
Expanding.
Celebration and revelation that all is
right.

"Twilight Thoughts" (Entry 42)

Yellow haze touches the sky.
Gathering clouds, by and by.
Heavy darkness threatens and calls.
Twilight memories hides and falls.
For this is the time which does not exist.
A flicker of eye, the light is missed.

"Garden's Delight" (Entry 35)

Light. Too bright,
and colours garish prance.

Rows of roses and petal heads rock
and roll and metal dance.

Stems swaying in heated breeze,
as misty haze skims their knees.

Midsummer's enchantment at it's height.
The midday garden in full delight.
